Shegerian & Associates to Represent Former Beauty Queen in Sexual Battery Claims Against Catholic Priest 300 300 Shegerian Law
LOS ANGELES–Anthony Nguyen, attorney and shareholder at Santa Monica-based law firm Shegerian & Associates, announced today that his firm will represent a former beauty queen and television show host from Vietnamese Broadcasting Service (VBS) who claims to have suffered sexual battery by the station’s founder, Father Joseph C. Nguyen, who is also a prominent Catholic priest and parochial vicar at Saint Anne Church in Santa Ana.

Father Joseph C. Nguyen owns and operates VBS, which features QVC-style programming as well as religious services. The suit against him has been filed by Tram Ho, a one-time beauty queen and former host of VBS’ “Fight Price on Television,” a jewelry auction show. In her complaint, Ho alleges that Father Joseph made repeated and unwanted sexual advances, smothered her with hugs and kisses, and once tried to force himself on her in the VBS offices, groping her breasts and genitals against her will.

Ho will be represented in court by Carney Shegerian and Anthony Nguyen of Shegerian & Associates, a firm that just last week achieved the largest racial discrimination trial verdict in California history. Shegerian & Associates are in fact responsible for five of the ten largest wrongful termination verdicts in California history.

“Ms. Ho alleges that Father Joseph forced himself on her and repeatedly groped and kissed her without consent,” said Anthony Nguyen. “After denying her boss’ advances time and time again, Ms. Ho was fired from the company. We believe Father Joseph attempted to use his dual position of power in the Catholic Church and VBS to take advantage of this young woman. He even tried to justify his sexual advances by telling the plaintiff that everyone sins—even priests—and that sexual desires were one of the ‘realities of survival.’”

“If these allegations are true,” added Anthony Nguyen, “it’s reprehensible that a man who holds such a respected position of authority within the Catholic Church, not to mention his role as Ms. Ho’s employer at VBS, has used his power to deceive and manipulate innocent women. Now it’s our job to help Ms. Ho seek justice and deliver a public statement that this kind of sexual assault, harassment and wrongful termination – in any workplace – cannot be tolerated from any employer – even those who are protected by the church.”
