Carney Shegerian, trial lawyer and founder of the Los Angeles-based employment discrimination firm Shegerian & Associates, released a statement regarding the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Brett Ratner. The producer was accused of sexual misconduct by six women who told their stories in an article published by the Los Angeles Times earlier last week.
“Brett Ratner has been known as one of the most powerful and successful producers in Hollywood for the last several decades,” Shegerian says. “If these allegations are true, it appears that Mr. Ratner has used his position of power to harass and assault innocent women, which happens far too often in workplaces across the country.”
“The women allege that Mr. Ratner made inappropriate comments and unwelcome sexual advances on movie sets, at parties, and even while on an airplane,” Shegerian states. “One victim has also alleged that Mr. Ratner blocked the exit to his home and forced her to engage in a sexual act.”
“Over the last several weeks, women have proved that they will no longer tolerate being mistreated, harassed, and assaulted in the workplace,” Shegerian says. “It takes an incredible amount of courage to speak out against anyone, especially a man in a position of power, so these women should be applauded for their bravery.”
