Attorney Carney Shegerian, founder of the California-based employee rights firm Shegerian & Associates, recently issued a statement regarding the case.
“Even employees of huge corporations like McDonald’s are entitled to fair treatment on the job. Instances of racial discrimination and harassment are devastating and should not be tolerated by any employee,” said Shegerian.
Shegerian & Associates handles a variety of employment cases, including those involving allegations of racial discrimination.
For more than 40 years, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act has been in place to ensure that companies large and small are held accountable for their discriminatory actions towards employees. Shegerian went on to note, “There should be no way, in this day and age, that a company escapes legal scrutiny when it is in violation of the laws that protect workers from race discrimination.”
Shegerian also commented on the legal implication involving franchises of the case. “It will be interesting to see how the court rules on whether McDonald’s Corporation can be held liable for the behavior of its franchises. Such issues could have widespread impact on employment discrimination law both now and in the future.”
