According to the Wall Street Journal, Dolan resigned in protest, citing unconscious gender bias as the reason for the behavior of fellow board members who allegedly left Dolan out of conversations about terminating Quicksilver CEO Andy Mooney, and hiring his successor Pierre Agnus.
“Unconscious bias based on gender is an issue that is reaching unparalleled heights in the workplace, and will continue to have a ripple effect into corporate board rooms across the nation until top executives learn to drop unfair assumptions about a woman’s ability to maintain a consistently professional demeanor as an employee, as a board member, or in any other top level corporate position,” said Shegerian.
“The EEOC has already given special attention to the issue of unconscious bias in the workplace based on gender and based on race, and more and more women are choosing to speak out about their experiences,” Shegerian went on to say. “This fact alone should put executives and even corporate boards on alert as well as encourage job leaders to exercise careful consideration of their actions and decisions going forward.”
