LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27, 2017  — Cortney Shegerian of the Los Angeles-based employment discrimination firm Shegerian & Associates recently issued a statement regarding the wrongful termination allegations made against Molecular Health, a biomedical company, by a former employee. Marci Hocevar claims she was fired a month after complaining to her boss about a senior vice president’s decision to host a business meeting at Hooters. The senior vice president allegedly told Hocevar that his decision to have the meeting at Hooters was based on the fact that he liked being served by attractive females.

Ms. Hocevar said she felt as if she had no choice but to comply with the executive’s request to have the meeting at Hooters, even though she felt uncomfortable,” Shegerian continues. “Unfortunately, there are far too many employees that are put in this position where they feel forced to choose between their career and their values.”

Ms. Hocevar’s boss immediately filed a complaint with Human Resources after learning about the situation,” Shegerian states. “Both Ms. Hocevar and her supervisor followed the proper protocol, and yet they were punished for this decision just a month later when they were both terminated from the company.”

Ms. Hocevar was a highly respected, well-paid, remote employee at the time of this incident,” Shegerian states. “If the allegations are true, this case shows that unlawful retaliation can happen to any type of employee in any kind of work environment.”
